Caries treatment in Zurich

Tooth preservation through precision and aesthetics

A healthy tooth is a small work of art created by nature. At The Eram Clinic, our goal is not only to repair this work of art functionally in the event of tooth decay, but also to restore its natural beauty and structure. Using state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures and metal-free restoration materials, we offer you tooth decay treatment that meets the highest medical and aesthetic standards.

Tooth decay – early action is crucial

Tooth decay is caused by bacterial plaque, which converts sugar from food into acid, thereby demineralising the tooth enamel. If this process is left untreated, the decay penetrates deeper layers – right down to the tooth nerve.

Thanks to our high-resolution diagnostics, we can often detect caries at an early stage when it is still invisible to the naked eye. Our approach is minimally invasive. This means that we remove as much diseased tissue as necessary, but preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

The Eram method: pain-free & highly aesthetic

Forget dark amalgam fillings or noticeable edges. At The Eram Clinic, we only use biocompatible materials that are visually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

  • Digital diagnostics: we use low-radiation digital X-rays or laser fluorescence to locate caries precisely.
  • Pain-free anaesthesia: We attach great importance to gentle anaesthesia so that you hardly feel anything during the actual treatment.
  • Metal-free composite fillings: High-quality, ceramic-reinforced plastics that are modelled directly in the mouth using a layering technique – for maximum stability and a perfect appearance.
  • Ceramic inlays & overlays: For larger defects, we manufacture custom-fit ceramic elements in our in-house laboratory, which stabilise the tooth and chemically fuse with it.
  • Biocompatibility: We deliberately avoid using amalgam and rely on materials that are optimally compatible with your organism.

Holistic tooth preservation instead of mere repair

At The Eram Clinic, we do not view caries treatment as an isolated repair. We work with you to analyse the causes. Is it due to diet, brushing technique or saliva composition? Our goal is to prevent new caries from developing after treatment.

Through a combination of precise caries therapy and subsequent professional prophylaxis, we ensure that your teeth remain strong and healthy in the long term. A tooth that has been treated to a high standard can last a lifetime with good care.

Precision from our in-house laboratory

A particular advantage for our patients is the close connection to our in-house laboratory team. If a defect is too large for a traditional filling, our dental technicians create inlays or partial crowns made of all-ceramic material. These are colour-matched to your neighbouring teeth so that the restoration remains invisible in your mouth. Light refraction and transparency correspond to natural tooth enamel.

Frequently asked questions about the treatment of tooth decay

In the early stages, tooth decay often causes no pain. The first signs may be white or brownish spots on the surface of the teeth or sensitivity to sweet, cold or hot foods. If a tooth hurts constantly, the decay has usually already penetrated deep into the tooth.

Not necessarily. If caries is detected very early on (initial caries), we can often stop the process and remineralise the enamel with fluoridation or a procedure known as caries infiltration (without drilling).

Amalgam contains mercury and no longer meets our standards for modern, aesthetic and health-conscious dentistry. We use materials that do not cause tension in the tooth and are visually perfect.

Modern, ceramic-reinforced composites last for many years with good care and regular dental hygiene. For very high chewing forces, ceramic inlays are often the more durable alternative.

Yes, treating tooth decay is generally possible and often even important in order to reduce the bacterial load in the mouth. We will advise you individually on the gentlest options during pregnancy.

If the decay has reached the tooth nerve, root canal treatment is usually necessary to save the tooth. Here too, we use state-of-the-art procedures to ensure that the tooth can be preserved.
