Are veneers right for me?

Veneers

Why veneers?

As one of the world’s leading aesthetic dentistry clinics and a centre of excellence in the field of cosmetic dentistry, we know a thing or two about veneers. They have certainly become more popular in recent years, thanks to celebrity endorsements and reality TV.

Because of this, many patients actively seek veneers to achieve a certain look, but aren’t sure whether they are an appropriate or viable option for them. We approach each and every client with bespoke care which starts at their very first appointment, when one of our dedicated patient care managers meet to discuss their goals and desires. This is just a selection of the questions we discuss with patients to ascertain whether veneers are the best option for them – along with a detailed dental consultation to determine the current state of their teeth. Do you grind your teeth?

Bruxism, or teeth grinding, is much more common than you might think. It is usually caused by stress but can also be a result of a misaligned bite or jaw issues. At first glance Bruxism wouldn’t appear to be associated with veneers – but for patients who have an issue with teeth grinding they may not be a suitable option. Over time your veneers may become damaged or worn down due to the persistent issue, so it’s best to identify this and treat it first, or explore alternative options, when considering veneers for Bruxism patients.

Are your teeth damaged or broken?

Although veneers are an excellent way to improve the aesthetic of teeth, they were originally created to remedy teeth that had been subjected to severe damage or decay.

If your teeth are damaged or broken veneers could be an excellent choice for you. They may however be offered in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments such as Invisalign or surgery to ensure best results.

Do you struggle with sensitivity?

Traditionally veneers involve the teeth being shaved down to make way for the porcelain facades which form a beautiful new smile. Naturally exposing the teeth in this way can cause some sensitivity, however for patients who already suffer with sensitive teeth this may cause further issues. If so, different types of veneers or an alternative approach may be better.
